Rajasthan will protect caracal (Siyagosh), a cat species rarer than Tiger

Not only tigers and bears, now Rajasthan will make a significant contribution in saving rare species like caracal (syagosh) and wolves. For the last 6 decades, the number of Caracal (Siyagosh) was continuously decreasing in every part of Rajasthan.

Its number was only in some forests of the state. Till 2017, the situation was that only 36 caracals were recorded in wildlife census less than tiger in the state. The plan to save this rare cat was being done in Rajasthan for a long time, but how to implement it was beyond comprehension.

Emphasis on protection of these creatures also

Special attention is being paid to the conservation of Caracal, Anteater, Honey badger and wolves in Rajasthan. Recently a special study has been done in Ranthambore. In this study the number of caracal has been reported to be 40. It is also special because once such a number was in the whole of Rajasthan.

So far 35 to 40 caracals (Siyagosh) have been counted in Ranthambore Tiger Project and all these photos have been taken by camera trap method. Caracal has been traced in about 5 months by installing camera traps at 215 places.
